272 Part IV: Controlling Your Software Project You can take certain steps to keep potential mistakes to a minimum: 1. Just like the other parts of the Iron Triangle, scope and timelines, controlling costs is essential. In this section, we talk a little bit about the methods you can use to control your project costs. You can t change one of the sides in the Iron Triangle without affecting the other sides. For example, if you start cutting costs by eliminating personnel, you will probably increase the timeline.
